January Update: v0.3.1 Waypoint Polish
Hello! Welcome to January's build of the game. If landing on this page represents the fulfillment of some kind of New Year's resolution for you, then congratulations! You did the thing. No one can take that from you.
This release polishes up the sound effects and animations for the waypoint pins and paths released in v0.3.0, including adding this humble-but-effective entrance animation for waypoint pins --
Friends, February is going to be WILD. My wife and I will be bringing home our second daughter! We're so excited for the madness, and I'm keeping the dev plan flexible for (at least) the month to match the structureless-ness of our lives that is coming. Like literally. If you've never cared for a baby, you have no idea what low-level, primitive forms of daily structure you learned to take for granted years ago. The sun and moon stop meaning anything to your life for a solid few months there, and then you build it all back.
So: The plan over the next few months will be to work on a first iteration of the game's puzzle mechanics, and to get a full draft of the story written.
Work on the puzzles has already begun. They will revolve around building networks of nodes that are viable according to a set of rules. These networks, inspired by brain synapses, represent digital copies of memories the player is trying to gain access to. For the past few weeks while I finished up the dev on waypoints and animated paths, I've also been playing with potential rules and structure for these puzzles, using craft supplies from the local store --
I'm sure this won't be the last time I bust out the beads and dowels, but I have enough ideas to play with to jump into the engine now and see how they actually feel in-game.
Puzzle creation is new for me, so I expect plenty of cul-de-sacs and iteration. Should be interesting! If you have any tips for puzzle development in general, I'd love to hear them.
Thanks for reading (and playing!),
-Tyler
